UPDATE: Spectacle

Mar 27, 2019

Spectacle Spectacle by Jodie Lynn Zdrok
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

I have had this book laying by my bed for 2 weeks now. I am wanting to get to this book. HOW!!!! am I supposed to squeeze in all these great books this year. I just don't know!

I love books that are set in the 1800. If I see that, I am going to pick it and give it a shot. This gives me such Jack the Ripper vibes.

Goodreads synopsis:

A YA murder mystery in which a young reporter must use her supernatural visions to help track down a killer targeting the young women of Paris.

Paris, 1887.

Sixteen-year-old Nathalie Baudin writes the daily morgue column for Le Petit Journal. Her job is to summarize each day's new arrivals, a task she finds both fascinating and routine. That is, until the day she has a vision of the newest body, a young woman, being murdered--from the perspective of the murderer himself.

When the body of another woman is retrieved from the Seine days later, Paris begins to buzz with rumors that this victim may not be the last. Nathalie's search for answers sends her down a long, twisty road involving her mentally ill aunt, a brilliant but deluded scientist, and eventually into the Parisian Catacombs. As the killer continues to haunt the streets of Paris, it becomes clear that Nathalie's strange new ability may make her the only one who can discover the killer's identity--and she'll have to do it before she becomes a target herself.

ARC: Smoke and Key

Smoke and Key Smoke and Key by Kelsey Sutton
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

I received this from the publisher via Netgalley for review.

I have not been able to get to this yet and the release of this book is quickly approaching. This cover art is stunning and I have wanted to read it. I have had several ARC's and I am trying to get them caught up. The world of book reading.. SO many books SO little time.

Goodreads Synopsis:

A sound awakens her. There's darkness all around. And then she's falling...

She has no idea who or where she is. Or why she's dead. The only clue to her identity hangs around her neck: a single rusted key. This is how she and the others receive their names—from whatever belongings they had when they fell out of their graves. Under is a place of dirt and secrets, and Key is determined to discover the truth of her past in order to escape it.

She needs help, but who can she trust? Ribbon seems content in Under, uninterested in finding answers. Doll’s silence hints at deep sorrow, which could be why she doesn't utter a word. There's Smoke, the boy with a fierceness that rivals even the living. And Journal, who stays apart from everyone else. Key's instincts tell her there is something remarkable about each of them, even if she can't remember why.

Then the murders start; bodies that are burnt to a crisp. After being burned, the dead stay dead. Key is running out of time to discover who she was—and what secret someone is willing to kill to keep hidden—before she becomes the next victim…

UPDATE: Daisy Jones & The Six

Mar 26, 2019

Daisy Jones & The Six Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

This book was something I wasn't sure I wanted to read but with all the Hype surrounding it, I am now adding it to my TBR list.

I will not push this before other books that I have but I will fit it in when my "mood" is right for it. The only reason I am trying to add this is because of they Hype so we will see if it is worth it.

Review: Daughter of Smoke & Bone

Daughter of Smoke & Bone

My rating: 0 of 5 stars

What can I say... If you are like me and you are late to these books, its okay, take a breath and read them!!!

“Your soul sings to mine. My soul is yours, and it always will be, in any world. No matter what happens. I need you to remember that I love you.”

I fell in love with this story. I did remind me a lot of the book series, Hidden Wings by Cameo Renae.

“Once upon a time, an angel and a devil fell in love.
It did not end well.”

Karou is a girl that works for Brimstone and bidding his needs. When called in to their world, he sends her to fetch teeth for him. I did want to know the entire time of the book why he needed teeth. Its okay guys, if you are like me and you want to know, it does get answered at the end of this book. Once she enters a door she wasn't supposed to she begins seeing burnt hand prints on the doors. After being kicked out by Brimestone she doesn't question the handprints.

description
(I am not sure who this picture belongs too. Please leave a comment below so it can be credited)

And lets talk about Akiva. He is an angel sent down to destroy the other world but for some reason he is drawn to Karou. When the town fight broke out between Akiva and Karou, I was like the magic that was still going on.

“It's not like there's a law against flying."
"Yes there is. The law of gravity.”

I think the story was beautifully done. I think the love story was sweet and I wanted Karou and Akiva to finally get together.

When the story began to reveal itself, I was in love with the book. The world building of this book was amazing. I was so glad I picked up this book. I did not let me down. I can not wait to move on to book 2. I hope the story gets better. I don't want to read other reviews because I don't want to be disappointed.

Review: Ghosts of Gotham -ARC

Mar 22, 2019

Ghosts of Gotham Ghosts of Gotham by Craig Schaefer
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley.

This was my first Craig Schaefer book but sure won’t be the last.

I can honestly say, I was very surprised. This was my first Craig Schaefer book and I will not be the last. The moment I started reading it I knew I would not be able to put this book down. The world and plot of this story was very well written and explored by the author.

We are met with our two main characters are Lionel and Maddie. Lionel is a reporter whose purpose is to debunk frauds. Because of his past and in order to make sure that his past stays behind him, he makes a deal with a woman named Regina Dunkle. She wants him to find a Poe manuscript for her and so from there the story begins. Then we have Maddie. She is so not what se seems. Maddie has a dark past of her own. The relationship between these two characters, I loved!

I am not sure if this is a stand alone or if there will be others but I think this book has more it can grow on. If we knew more about the past for both of them, this story could really grow.

Review: Storm and Fury ARC

Storm and Fury Storm and Fury by Jennifer L. Armentrout
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for release of this book in exchange for an honest review!!

Lets just say, WOW.. I loved this book. This was actually my first read by Jennifer Armentrout but now I just want to read all the books! I do know that this is apparently a spin off from The Dark Elements series which I have not read, like I said this was my first read. I am sure I am missing some valuable information. This makes me want to read that series then re-read this so I can see what I might have really missed.

What caught my attention when I requested this book was the aspect of being able to see ghost and spirits but hold on, it does not stop there, we have gargoyle shape-shifters. I mean, what???? Yes, please, give to me! I am so thankful that I was actually given this ARC. Also, lets just take a moment and look at this cover art!!........ Moment over! Yes, stunning work.

Also, I think this maybe a first book in a series. Not sure but I think so.

I do recommend this book!

Review: In the Shadow of Spindrift House - ARC

In the Shadow of Spindrift House In the Shadow of Spindrift House by Mira Grant
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an advanced copy!

I think this was my first book by Mira Grant but I have seen so many rave about her work. I can see why people enjoy her work. I really enjoyed this book. It definitely had its fair share of chilling moments. Anything with a spooky house gives me the chills.

I have noticed smaller ratings on this but I am not sure if that is because others enjoyed her work more so for that I will have to check out her other work but this was a solid 4 star read for me. I may will know more about her other writing once I read more by her but I really enjoyed the creepy aspects to this book.

Finale by Stephanie Garber is going on TOUR!

Finale Finale by Stephanie Garber

UPDATE!!!! Stephanie Garber is going on TOUR for book #4, Finale.

I can not wait to head to Nashville May 11. This is on a Saturday, so at this point I have nothing to interfere with my journey there!! I missed the Nashville last year because it fell on a Friday and I had to work. This is the best news to come across all week.

I am so excited for this book! This is my most anticipated book of the year. I have already purchased 4 different copies of this book and have my eye on a couple other copies! I just wish I had other copies of the first 2 books. All I have of those are the Barnes and Noble editions. I do have the ARC of legendary also. Super huge fan... But if any one has the cards from the first 2 books for sale, please let me know! I go my submission put in for the pre-order on these. I missed the others.

If you have any special editions of these book you are looking to get rid of or sale, please let me know. I have money ready to.

Stephanie Garber has rose to be one of my never miss a book buy. Her writing is magical and she has a way to pull you into her world. I knew from the moment that Caraval released that I would love this world. It is full of games, magical elements, and trust issues but most of all, this book series kept me on my toes.

I did not think that there was a way for book 2 to out do book one, but wow. The world just go better and the fates are brought in to this world.

I can not see when where this book takes us. I really hope I am lucky enough to get my hands on advanced copy. However, I did see where Stephanie said on IG that there were very limited amounts for this book. I guess if I don't, I will just hold my breath to the release date, and just know that I will make sure I have no other books keeping my time on that day. This will be the book I pick up!

I hope you are looking forward to this as much as I am!!

Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco

Capturing the Devil Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco

My heart can not wait until the release of this book! I don't think she could have ended a series off on a better story. I have special ordered the Beacon Box for this book and then there is another box where this book is being featured coming March 30th that I am eyeing.
This book is book 4 of a series and this shows to be the final book in this series. If you have not read the rest of these book, you MUST! You are following Audry Rose and Thomas Cresswell on their search to find the truth behind these stories but in the mean time, we see a story unfolding between them.

I have also bought several of the releases and special books editions for Finale by Stephanie Garber. These 2 book are my most anticipated for 2019. The days are getting closer even though I still have to wait until September for Capturing the Devil. I also, have not seen the actual cover reveal for this book yet, so I am so excited when I get to this book cover.

**The story of H.H. Holmes runs pretty close to the story of Jack the Ripper. Actually, some believe that H.H. Holmes is Jack the Ripper since he fell off the grid around the time Jack the Ripper started his killing spree in London. Records have even been found that H.H. Holmes used several different names and those names were found on a manifest going toward London before the murders. The story of H.H. Holmes intriques me and the murder house that he built. The mind of this guy was insane but he had to be very intelligent to build this home and no one ever catch what he was doing. Story was told that he would fire the hired hands because he did not want anyone finding out his design for the murder house. I can not wait to see her side of this story. **

If you have not watched the TV series on H.H. Holmes that is featured on Netflix, then I would highly suggest this.

Also, to add the joy of this book coming out, there is rumor that possibly Kerri Maniscalco may be in Nashville with no other than Stephanie Garber herself. They will be there for a book signing on May 11th. Now, I don't think Kerri has actually announced this so I could be wrong but my heart would be so happy to have 2 of my favorite authors in one place! I can NOT contain my excited until I hear if the news is true!!!!

I am going to try to dive into this book this weekend and get my review up. This book releases on 3/26/19. I was so excited when I got this ARC in the mail via the publishing company. It was like Christmas in January.

Review: Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge

Mar 12, 2019

Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge Last Call at the Nightshade Lounge by Paul Krueger
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I decided to DNF this book at 76% through the book. I was trying to force myself to read it with the book club but after several other reviews for this I just decided to DNF it before I put myself it a slump. It has taken me longer than I should have to complete this based on the size of this book.

The concept of this book was very cute. The synopsis for this book is as follows:

A sharp and funny urban fantasy for “new adults” about a secret society of bartenders who fight monsters with alcohol fueled magic.

College grad Bailey Chen has a few demons: no job, no parental support, and a rocky relationship with Zane, the only friend who’s around when she moves back home. But when Zane introduces Bailey to his cadre of monster-fighting bartenders, her demons get a lot more literal. Like, soul-sucking hell-beast literal. Soon, it’s up to Bailey and the ragtag band of magical mixologists to take on whatever—or whoever—is behind the mysterious rash of gruesome deaths in Chicago, and complete the lost recipes of an ancient tome of cocktail lore.

My Thoughts and Review:

The beginning was a bit slow and it did take me some time to get into this but when I did there were just things that would happen that was a bit confusing. I thought the author just missed some opportunities to indulge a little on something's. The story just fell short and some details left you missing parts of the story. It just felt like some of the answers were never answered.

The concept of mixing drinks and obtaining powers was very unique idea. I did love how the author did incorporate the drink mixes into the book and the history of the drink so that it would fit the story and power that was given from the drink.

It was a solid 2.5 star for what I read but I just did not finish it because I felt the story was missing so much and the author made errors and just left you wondering who and what was going on at times.

Review: Vampire Cheerleaders Vol. 2

Mar 7, 2019

Vampire Cheerleaders Vol. 2 Vampire Cheerleaders Vol. 2 by Adam Arnold
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I have decided to DNF this book. I loved the first story about the Vampire Cheerleaders. The first book was the same way. I just don't really enjoy the second story. I do like how they somewhat overlap the characters in the story #2 with characters from story #1.

I will continue with the rest of the series if they are more about the Vampire Cheerleaders. I don't want to give much detail on this book because It is a continuation from book 1. This story just happens in Vegas. Which BTW is one of my favorite vacation places.

Review: City of Bones

Mar 1, 2019

City of Bones City of Bones by Cassandra Clare
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I really wanted to hop on this band wagon and see what this series was all about. Pretty much knew most about it book one because I have watched the movie and TV show but I have heard the deeper you get into this series. The better it gets.

I really did enjoy it but it did a have some issues but I want to keep reading the series. I do really enjoy the characters and want to follow them on this book journey!

I will give my deeper review later since I am on my phone right now.

UPDATE: Okay. So I am now on book 3 but noticed I did not give my update on this. I don't want give a lot because most people already know the story line and plot of this book series. But for me, I did enjoy it. As I said before, I did spoil myself because I had watched the movie and so most of this was following that. So even the end was not a shocker me.

But we meet a girl named Clary that is about to reach the age that her life is about to change. Secrets have been kept from her for years, but one night at a party she starts seeing people that others can not see. She sees someone murdered but the thing is, there is no sign and no one else seen this. And the people that committed the murder are surprised when she sees them because the only ones that can see them are "Shadowhunters". This story is fun and loved following there story as it grows and how Clary's story unfolds. You do get some demon hunting and killing in this book.

Review: Vampire Kisses

Vampire Kisses Vampire Kisses by Ellen Schreiber
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I just picked this book up and needed a short read so I thought I would give it a shot. I know this book series is an older series but as a first time reader, I really enjoyed it.

Synopsis:
In her small town, dubbed "Dullsville," sixteen-year-old Raven — a vampire-crazed goth-girl — is an outcast. But not for long...

The intriguing and rumored-to-be haunted mansion on top of Benson Hill has stood vacant and boarded-up for years. That is, until its mysteriously strange new occupants move in. Who are these creepy people — especially the handsome, dark, and elusive Alexander Sterling? Or rather, what are they? Could the town prattle actually ring true? Are they vampires? Raven, who secretly covets a vampire kiss, both at the risk of her own mortality and Alexander's loving trust, is dying to uncover the truth.

Ellen Schreiber's spooky and stirring romance tells the story of two outsiders who fall in love in a town where conformity reigns, and ends with a shocking surprise.

My Review:
Raven is young girl that grew up in a town that she called "Dullsville". She was very much a loner. She loved black and vampires. She grew up loving Dracula and was fascinated with vampires. Once in like 3rd grade she wanted to be a vampire badly, that she pinched her fellow school mate to have him bite her because she thought she would become a vampire.

“Raven?'
Yes?'
What do you believe in?'
I believe in - finding out!”

After years of a rumored to be haunted house - she and a friend make their way into the home on a creepy dark night. This was in her teen years. She is fascinated with the idea of scary and dark. She is your typical goth-girl. After years of the Mansion being empty, it is finally occupied by a family that are rumored to be vampires. Well of course this makes Raven excited so she tries to find out who the neighbors are and well as it goes, the young boy that lives in the home also wants to know more about Raven.

“I want a relationship
I can finally sink my teeth into."
-Alexander Sterling”

Vampire Kisses

Will Raven's hunger to be a vampire become true is the story just a myth about the neighbors next door?

This is a cute YA book. I will continue on because they are fast reads and now I actually want to know where the story goes.
