Freaky Reapers by Amanda M. Lee
A Mystic Caravan Mystery Book 8
Wow!!! How did we get to 8 in this series so far??? Where have I been!!! I have read the first 4 in this series and had no idea we are already on book 8????? I have got to get myself updated.... I love a good circus book and when you throw in a little paranormal into the mix, it makes it so fun! I really need to do a re-read on these now to get myself caught up but they were such fast reads. I remember how much I loved them. I hope they still hold up!
Continue reading down to see Goodreads Synopsis for this book!! DID NOT WANT TO SPOIL IT!!!

Book 1: Freaky Days Released in 2016

Here is the Goodreads synopsis:

The show must go on … even when monsters are afoot.

Poet Parker is Romani by birth and a fortune teller by choice. As a member of Mystic Caravan Circus, she’s spent the past ten years using her psychic talents to tell people what their future holds by day and hunting paranormal monsters by night.

You see, Mystic Caravan is more than just a circus – it’s also a force of good in a world that needs help fighting evil.

Poet is set in her ways – and happy with her life – until Kade Denton shows up and upends the entire operation. He’s loud and proud – and Poet doesn’t like anyone telling her what to do.

As the new head of security, Kade thinks his only job is going to be tackling drunken revelers when they get out of hand. He’s in for a rude – and bloody – awakening.

When monsters strike and the truth comes out, Kade finds he has to learn on the job with Poet as his somewhat reluctant instructor.

Sparks are flying – both real and figurative – and when a truly terrible beast targets the circus for extermination it’s all magical hands on deck for the final showdown.

Some things are born evil, but the people in Mystic Caravan were born to fight it.

Prepare to be amazed.
I was in love with the story. I don't normally read this type of genre. I love a good circus book and the cover on this book intrigued me and I seen all the good ratings.  Also, the story line was very compelling.

I love the story of Poet, which this name is awesome for this book, and Kade. They were pulled together since he first hired on by Max. Poet wanted to tell Kade the story behind the traveling circus and the powers they contained but Max refused to let her tell him. Strange deaths began to happen and Poet would be gone long periods of time with Luke, which made questions arise for Kade about Poet and Luke. When Kade would question them being together, no specific answer would be given. He just assumed they were dating. When things began to happen inside the circus parameters and not set off the dream catcher, questions began to arise if someone inside the circus was the mystery behind some of the changlings that were showing up and the deaths that happened.

Don't miss out on this book. You must read to find out what happened and the story between Poet, Kade, and Luke. You will be amazed as it unveiled before your eyes. And the secret that been long hid inside the circus crew they call family. Someone has held a long secret.

Goodreads synopsis to this book: Freaky Reapers
Don't read if you don't want spoiler!

Poet Parker put the past behind her. At least she thought she did.
Life on the streets wasn’t what she had in mind for her forever and she jumped at the chance to join Mystic Caravan Circus when an invitation was extended. She didn’t look back.

That was ten years ago, and now Poet is going back to the exact area she used to haunt … and she’s nervous.

The friends she left behind are scattered. Some are dead. Some have moved on to other things. Some turned out to be something else entirely. Others simply disappeared into the wind.
Unfortunately for Parker, forgetting isn’t easy … especially when a group of banshees start infringing on Mystic Caravan’s territory and the creatures seemingly have ties to the people Poet left behind.

Between the reapers also working the case – a crazy family called the Grimlocks who can’t stay out of trouble – and the guilt weighing Poet down given the way she fled, she has her hands full.
Someone is controlling the banshees, stealing girls from the streets and creating a merry band of monsters. It’s up to Poet to find out who and protect two street girls who remind her of herself.
Poet doesn’t want to look back but she has no choice … what she finds might be more evil than she ever imagined.

Here is the complete series! I know you can find them on Amazon!

Oh holy grail!!!! This is happening!!! I love Kerri! Her books are so amazing. I have been counting down until her release in September that I let this one slip by me!!! WHERE DID YOU COME FROM???

I am so excited!! I followed this series since it began. Stalking Jack the Ripper is what made me fall in love with Historical Fiction.

Goodreads synopsis:

In this irresistibly-priced short story, catch a glimpse of the inner struggles and triumphs that drive Stalking Jack the Ripper's endearing but troubled hero.

Enigmatic, brooding, and darkly handsome, Thomas Cresswell has always been the one mystery Audrey Rose has never been able to fully solve. As brilliant partners in crime investigation, they understand each other perfectly...but as young lovers, their passionate natures have led to both euphoria and heartbreak throughout the Stalking Jack the Ripper series.

This novella features a collection of scenes that takes place during and after the pair's horrifying Atlantic voyage in Escaping From Houdini. Experience new and familiar scenes from Thomas's unique point of view, including an intensely personal look into his plea for Audrey Rose's hand in marriage.

With a romance for the ages, Audrey Rose and Thomas reach the conclusion to their epic, irresistible partnership in their final adventure, Capturing the Devil.

Goodreads Synopsis:

Presented by James Patterson's new children's imprint, this deliciously creepy horror novel has a storyline inspired by the Ripper murders and an unexpected, blood-chilling conclusion...

Seventeen-year-old Audrey Rose Wadsworth was born a lord's daughter, with a life of wealth and privilege stretched out before her. But between the social teas and silk dress fittings, she leads a forbidden secret life.

Against her stern father's wishes and society's expectations, Audrey often slips away to her uncle's laboratory to study the gruesome practice of forensic medicine. When her work on a string of savagely killed corpses drags Audrey into the investigation of a serial murderer, her search for answers brings her close to her own sheltered world.

The story's shocking twists and turns, augmented with real, sinister period photos, will make this dazzling, #1 New York Times bestselling debut from author Kerri Maniscalco impossible to forget.

This is was a new book for me. I don't normally listen to Historical Fiction but this has set a new found love for it.

I loved this book.

This book follows the acts of Jack the Ripper that was set in 1888. This book was so detailed that I actually began to Google the story of Jack the Ripper and to my surprise this was following his time line in 1888. Yet there are some fictional characters and actions to elaborate the story, I still love this book.

Audrey Rose was so fun to read about. Not only did we follow the story of Jack the Ripper but also a love story between Audrey and Thomas. The love story was not over done and did no way take away from the story line of this book.

This book kept you guessing until the end as who Jack the Ripper truly is. Kerri Maniscalco became a favorite author for me. So far this has hit one of my 2018 favorite reads.

Gideon the Ninth Gideon the Ninth by Tamsyn Muir

UPDATE: Thank you to the amazing Caroline Perny from TOR for approving me an ARC... The girl is the best!!! I was so excited when she responded back to me she was out of prints but could send me E-ARC... YES PLEASE!!!!! Thank you so much to TOR and Netgalley!! and of course Caroline!!!

Why hello Gideon the Ninth! Nice to meet you!

You sound like an amazing 2019 release and my new favorite epic sci-fi. You are currently being listed as MOST Anticipated of 2019 in Goodreads TBR list! You share a little Necromancy and sword-fighting and published by Tor, what else does a book need!

Thank you Tor! I will keep an eye out on this one and keep an eye out at NetGalley! Goodreads Description:

Gideon the Ninth is the most fun you'll ever have with a skeleton.

The Emperor needs necromancers.

The Ninth Necromancer needs a swordswoman.

Gideon has a sword, some dirty magazines, and no more time for undead bullshit.

Tamsyn Muir's Gideon the Ninth unveils a solar system of swordplay, cut-throat politics, and lesbian necromancers. Her characters leap off the page, as skillfully animated as necromantic skeletons. The result is a heart-pounding epic science fantasy.

Brought up by unfriendly, ossifying nuns, ancient retainers, and countless skeletons, Gideon is ready to abandon a life of servitude and an afterlife as a reanimated corpse. She packs up her sword, her shoes, and her dirty magazines, and prepares to launch her daring escape. But her childhood nemesis won't set her free without a service.

Harrowhark Nonagesimus, Reverend Daughter of the Ninth House and bone witch extraordinaire, has been summoned into action. The Emperor has invited the heirs to each of his loyal Houses to a deadly trial of wits and skill. If Harrowhark succeeds she will be become an immortal, all-powerful servant of the Resurrection, but no necromancer can ascend without their cavalier. Without Gideon's sword, Harrow will fail, and the Ninth House will die.

Of course, some things are better left dead.

NetGalley ARC Review: Ghostly Embrace

Ghostly Embrace Ghostly Embrace by Brenda Hurley
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the advanced review of this book.

I was so excited to get the advanced review of this.

This book was so amazing!!!!! The world building and development was very well done. If I am not mistaken this was a debut book set in a new fantasy world and she did a great job on her first Fantasy book. I do believe she has a few other but not in YA. I can not wait to see where she goes from here. I loved the characters of the story. Louis is an 18th century carpenter who is murdered in the beautiful bed he created. As his soul refuses to go to the afterlife he is bound to the bed with his lifeblood on in and has to follow the bed through the centuries.

This was a very ghostly love story that I really enjoyed. It may not be for everyone but It was a very light read and I needed light read from all the heavy stuff I have been reading.

Review: The Emperor's Fist: A Blackhawk Novel

Jun 18, 2019

The Emperor's Fist: A Blackhawk Novel
The Emperor's Fist: A Blackhawk Novel by Jay Allan
My rating: 0 of 5 stars

Thank you very much to Christina at Harper Collins for reaching out to me to review this book.

It has been a dream to work with Harper Collins. Christina you are the best!!!!

This is however book 4 so I will have to check to see if I need to read the first 3 books and get this one read before the release date. If anyone has read this one, can you let me know if I need to read the other 3 first or can this one be read as a stand alone and me know what I going on?

Goodreads Synopsis:

In this thrilling new installment in the Far Stars saga, a reluctant hero with a bloody past must reunite with an old love to battle an evil emperor willing to destroy all their worlds if he cannot control them.

When the Far Stars came under imperial attack, Astra Lucerne—the daughter and successor of the Far Stars’ greatest conqueror—Marshal Augustin Lucerne—rallied her father’s confederation forces to defend their worlds. They were joined in the fight by former imperial general Arkarin Blackhawk, a warrior whose skills and brutality made him infamous, and who has, for two decades, sought the redemption he knows is unreachable.

Now, with the imperial foothold in the sector eliminated, the Far Stars is free and almost united. While Astra’s forces continue to depose local tyrants and warlords, Ark and his crew have slipped back into the shadows. Though his heart belongs to Astra, Ark cannot get too close. His imperial conditioning remains under control, but it is still volatile, and the temptation of power threatens to unleash the dark compulsions that made him the most merciless of the emperor’s servants. He cannot risk allowing Astra to see the darkness inside him.

But while the battle has been won, the war may not be over. A petty smuggler makes a discovery that can enable the emperor to strike back and crush the resistance—unless Ark and Astra join forces again to stop him.
